An Eduard photo-etched set for a model of the Soviet Yak-9K fighter in 1:32 scale. The metal parts will give a large model detail that a plastic molding cannot carry.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Yakovlev Yak-9 was among the most numerous Soviet fighters of the Second World War. The Yak-9K version differed from the others in its armament: it carried a 45 mm cannon, an unusually powerful weapon for a single-engined fighter. The recoil of such a cannon loaded the airframe noticeably, so firing was done in short bursts. Machines of this version came about only in a small batch, which makes the model an interesting piece among the more common Yaks.
Etched metal is a thin metal fret with an etched relief, from which the parts are separated, shaped and glued onto the model. In 1:32 scale the cockpit is large and an open canopy gives a real look inside, so every thick plastic part tells. A metal element, by contrast, has the thickness it ought to have in scale as well. What the fret holds and where the individual parts belong is given by the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and level the remaining tab with a file. Make the bends over a bending tool or between two blades, so that the edge comes out sharp along its whole length; larger parts in this scale will take careful finishing shaping with a gloved finger as well. You will join the metal with cyanoacrylate glue applied on the tip of a toothpick, as cement for polystyrene does not work on it. Before painting, wash the fret, degrease it and lay a base coat underneath, otherwise the paint springs off the smooth metal.
A photo-etched fret is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
