About product

Vallejo Model Color Flat Brown (FS30108 / RAL8011), 17 ml

A flat, opaque acrylic paint thinnable with water from the Model Color line, a 17 ml dropper bottle. It is a modeling paint, not a kit. Model Color is the thicker paint developed above all for brush application: it has a high concentration of pigment, dries quickly and forms a smooth flat film. For an airbrush thin it with water or an airbrush thinner - it is not the Model Air line, which is sprayed straight from the bottle. The shade corresponds to the standards FS30108 and RAL8011.

Use

  • Earth, dust and mud - the basic tone of terrain in dioramas, on bases and on muddied vehicles.
  • Weathering and patina - a base under washes, filters and pigments, dried deposits of soil on chassis and running gear.
  • Wood and natural materials - crates, barrels, posts, tarpaulins, ropes, tool handles.
  • Equipment, packs, shelter halves and other figure accessories in a neutral brown.
  • A universal brown for mixing shades - it agrees well with green as well as ocher tones.

How it differs from the other Vallejo browns

Flat Brown is a neutral, universal flat brown - the hardest working of these browns, because you use it every time earth, dirt and wear are involved. Leather Brown is a warmer leather brown for equipment and straps, Chocolate Brown is a markedly darker shading brown and Hull Red is the red-brown paint of the underwater part of ship hulls. If you are not sure which brown to get first, Flat Brown is the most logical choice.

Who it is for

For builders of military vehicles, diorama makers, modelers of figures and railroad modelers alike - everywhere a classic flat brown for terrain and patina is needed. Lay it down in thin coats and shake the bottle thoroughly before use.

A safety note: ensure enough ventilation when spraying and protect your airways with a respirator. Avoid contact with the eyes. Keep out of the reach of children.

FAQ

It is the Model Color line - the thicker paint intended mainly for the brush, which has to be thinned before airbrushing. Model Air, by contrast, is pre-thinned for an airbrush and sprayed without thinning.

It is a versatile flat brown for earth, mud, wood and weathering. It serves splendidly as a base under washes and pigments and as the tone of muddied chassis and running gear.

Flat Brown is a neutral universal brown. Leather Brown is a warmer leather brown for equipment and straps, Chocolate Brown is a darker shading brown and Hull Red is the red-brown shade of ship hulls below the waterline.

It is thinned with water, or with an airbrush thinner or flow improver. Wash brushes and the airbrush with water right after the work; dried paint already calls for an acrylic cleaner.
