Light wood with a yellow cast in a transparent form, the 1:32 format is an accessory item from HGW for imitating wooden surfaces on a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This accessory deals with a single, though notoriously difficult task: how to get a convincing wood grain onto a model. Painting the growth rings by hand with oils or a glaze takes hours and the result tends to be uneven. A ready motif, by contrast, holds a uniform rhythm of grain across the whole area. The name gives a transparent form, so it is to be reckoned with that the tone of the undercoat beneath the motif works together with the final impression.
Wood was ubiquitous on the machines of the early days of aviation. Fuselage shells were built of plywood, propellers of glued laminations, wing spars and the floors of pilots' compartments of ash or spruce. Even in the 1930s wooden propellers and interiors were commonly used, and in many places they held on until the end of the Second World War. The shade meanwhile differed according to the kind of material used and according to how heavily the surface was varnished.
Choose the base color so that the grain stands out; with light wood a sandy cream area tends to be suitable. Work in parts, unify the direction of the grain according to the real structure and place the joins where a frame or an edge will cover them. At the end coat the area with varnish and choose any sheen according to how heavily the wood was meant to be varnished.
Neither the size of the sheet nor the number of leaves can be established from the name, so they are not stated.
