Why a wood imitation on the Ho-229

The Horten Ho-229 was a German jet flying wing from the end of the Second World War with a largely wooden structure over its large surfaces. It is precisely those extensive and otherwise plain panels that make a faithful wood imitation the key to a realistic model — the whole impression of the machine stands or falls with the wood grain. Painting such an area by hand is demanding; the decals therefore speed up the work considerably and improve the result.

How to use the set

• First paint the surface in a base wood shade (light ocher to beige) and unify it with a gloss coat.
• Cut out the piece of texture you need, soak it briefly and transfer it onto the surface; watch the continuity of the grain.
• Use a decal softener so that the texture settles and follows the shape and the panel lines.
• Fine-tune the shade with glazes and filters, then fix everything with a matte or semi-gloss coat.
