The Sd.Kfz. 182, known as the King Tiger, was the heaviest series-built German tank of the Second World War. It weighed almost seventy tons, its frontal armor was thick and sloped, and in its traversing turret it carried an 8.8 cm gun with a barrel 71 calibers long. Side plates of the Schurzen type were hung along the hull on German equipment of that time as additional protection.
The set brings side plates made in photo-etched metal and is prepared for the kits of the Dragon and Zvezda brands. Metal allows a thickness that cannot be achieved in plastic, so the plates look like thin sheets even from the side. They are also easily bent or torn if you want to suggest damage from service. The exact placing of the parts is to be found in the instructions supplied with the set.
Separate the parts from the carrier sheet with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by breaking them out. Try the brackets and hooks dry on the model first so that the row of plates runs straight; a plate hung crooked shows more on a finished model than a missing rivet. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) applied in the tiniest amount. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with primer. Deformation looks more convincing if you do it before gluing, because the metal then does not have to be bent on the finished model.
The set suits modelers of German equipment who want thin plates and the option of showing them damaged or partly missing. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
