A masking set from New Ware for a model of the twin-engined Bell UH-1N helicopter and its Italian-built equivalent, the AB-212, in 1:48 scale. It helps keep the cockpit glazing clean and gives the frames and the color transitions a crisp edge without your having to pick them out laboriously with a brush. The BASIC level in the name sets the basic level of the set apart from the more extensive EXPERT level in the same range.
The UH-1N Twin Huey came about as the twin-engined variant of the famous Huey family. In place of a single turbine it received a coupled powerplant in which two engines drive a common gearbox; that markedly raised flight safety over water and in mountainous terrain. The machine served mainly on liaison, transport and support duties. The AB-212 is the license-built Italian version of the same helicopter, and in its naval form it became a shipboard machine for a number of European navies, with different equipment and conspicuously different external fit from the land-based variants.
First clear the surface of grease and dust, and lay the masking on only once the base is finished and dry. A sensible order is the interior shade of the frames first, then the external camouflage. Spray in thin coats so that paint does not creep under the edge. Take the masking off shortly after the paint has gone off; on an old, over-dried coat the edge tears easily.
