About product

What the set is for

The head decides whether a figure comes across as alive. The shapes of the body can be hidden under equipment, but the face and the set of the headgear are what the viewer looks at first. An interchangeable head is therefore the simplest way to turn a figure into a particular person: you only have to fit it and the same figure suddenly looks elsewhere, holds its chin differently and belongs to a different story. The set brings heads with the M40 field cap, that is with the soft headgear that soldiers wore in the field and out of combat alike.

Why in 1:16 scale of all sizes

Sixteenth is a large scale and a head in it is no longer a speck but a portrait in its own right. Features fit into it that would disappear in small scales: the folds of the cloth of the cap, the shape of the ear, the line of the lips. At the same time every unfinished spot shows on it, so it pays to give time to the sanding.

  • Replacement heads for figures in the large 1:16 scale
  • The headgear is the M40 field cap
  • Suited to replacing the head on figures with an expressionless face
  • The large scale allows the eyes and the shades of the skin to be painted

Building and painting tips

Cut the original head off with a sharp blade at the level of the collar, level the surface out and, if need be, drill a shallow recess for a pin. Cut the excess material away a little way from the part and sand the rest off, then wash the part and degrease it; choose the glue according to the material of the parts. Build the face from the base tone of the skin: lay the shadows into the eye sockets, under the cheekbones and under the lower lip, and the light on the nose, the forehead and the chin. Blend the transitions until the paint dries. Keep the cloth of the cap matte, so that it contrasts with the skin.

Who it is for

For figure modelers and builders of large dioramas who want to tell individual faces apart in a group of figures. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Cut the original head off with a sharp blade at the level of the collar, level the surface out and drill a shallow recess for a pin as needed. Then fit the new head and glue it on.

Choose the glue according to the material of the parts and follow the manufacturer's instructions. Level the surface before gluing, so that the head sits straight.

From the base tone of the skin: shadows into the eye sockets, under the cheekbones and under the lower lip, light on the nose, the forehead and the chin. Blend the transitions until the paint dries.

In a group of identical figures it tells the individual figures apart and changes their gaze and the set of their heads. The figure then stops coming across as a production piece.
