A resin replacement for the wheels of a model of the Chevrolet C60 truck, made with the tread of Avon tires. On a model of a military truck the wheels are one of the first things the eye notices, because they are large, close to the viewer and carry a distinct tread pattern. The resin casting renders both the tread pattern and the sidewall more sharply than a split plastic wheel, and the glued seam down the middle of the tire is avoided.
The Chevrolet C60 belongs to the family of Canadian military trucks built to a common pattern for British and Allied forces. Vehicles of this range served in countless forms as cargo trucks, tankers, workshops and ambulances and became the backbone of British Commonwealth supply. The tires were delivered by several makers, so the treads differ in period photographs, and it is often by the tread pattern that a vehicle in a photograph can be placed.
Wash the wheels in lukewarm water with dish soap and remove the casting blocks, which tend to be placed on the mating surface or on the edge of the sidewall. Cut with a saw and level the surface wet, so that the wheel seats square. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Do not paint the tire black but dark gray with a cast of brown, as otherwise it looks like rubber from a toy. Spray the rim in the color of the vehicle and set it apart from the rubber with a sharp line. At the end add dust in the tread and on the sidewall, as a wheel is always dirtier than the rest of the vehicle.
This is an accessory to a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
