The real subject

The HH-65 Dolphin is a twin-engined helicopter of French origin that with the US Coast Guard serves for search and rescue over the sea as well as for patrol duty. Turboshaft engines power it, and its recognition mark is the shrouded tail rotor, in which the blades run inside a ring in the tail fin instead of a free propeller. The letter C in the designation sets the later form apart. The machines carry a conspicuous warning coloring and service lettering, so on a model it is precisely the markings that make a large part of the resulting impression.

What the sheet offers

Application tips

• unify the base under the decals with a gloss varnish, as on a matte area a pale veil of silvering arises around the elements
• separate the elements with a sharp blade close to the printing, as a transparent margin is clearly visible on large flat areas
• the procedure for application and the recommended softener are given in the manufacturer's instructions
• apply long stripes one at a time and check as you go whether they follow on across the edge of a door
• once dry, coat the model with a final varnish, which beds the edges into the surface
