Ten M18A1 directional anti-personnel mines in 1:35 scale. A small accessory for dioramas and scenes with infantry or combat engineers.
Responsibility details are not available.
The M18A1 is a directional anti-personnel mine of American design. It differs from the classic pressure-operated mine both in how it works and in how it is used: it is not buried but set on folding legs on the surface, aiming its curved front face into the area it is meant to cover. The crew fires it on command from a distance, not the victim's step. So that nobody mistakes which way the mine points, the front plate carries a clear marking of which side belongs toward the enemy.
Ten pieces of the M18A1 mine in 1:35 scale. That count makes sense: in a diorama these mines turn up in groups of several around a position rather than singly, and a few spares stay in reserve.
These are very small parts, so set up your work over a tray that lets you find them if they drop, and use tweezers with a fine tip. Take dust and finger grease off the surface before painting. Thin the paint and lay it on in thin coats; a heavy coat floods the edges and turns the mine into a shapeless block. A dark olive tone with lightly brightened edges works better than a flat uniform color, and a matte varnish at the end is useful, because gloss gives a small object away. For the particular procedure of preparing and joining the parts, go by the manufacturer's instructions.
Into scenes with infantry and combat engineers, by fortified positions, checkpoints and equipment in 1:35 scale. They come off best where they can be seen up close and the viewer can tell they are set on the ground, not sunk into it. Get paints and glue separately, unless stated otherwise.
