This conversion set from the brand ELEFANT is intended for rebuilding a plastic model of the Panther tank in its D version into the Bergepanther recovery vehicle in the condition corresponding to June 1943. It is not a complete kit but a set of resin parts to be used together with a basic model that the modeler obtains separately.
The Bergepanther was a recovery vehicle built on the chassis of the Panther medium tank. It arose from the need to tow heavy tracked machines that lighter recovery equipment could not manage. The turret was replaced by an open compartment with recovery equipment and the vehicle served with technical units. The early rendering derived from the D version differs from the later batches in details of the superstructure, which is exactly why conversions are tied to a particular point in time.
A conversion is an intervention into a kit, and it therefore begins with planning, not with cutting. First go through the instructions for the basic model and work out which steps change and what must not be glued permanently. Make the cuts with a thin saw in several shallow strokes rather than by force, and level the edge with a file laid on a flat surface. Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent before gluing and attach them with cyanoacrylate glue; a joint combining plastic and resin is worth strengthening with a thin strip of plastic section from the inside. Fill and sand the seams back before the primer, because once sprayed every light will reveal them.
The set is supplied unpainted and without the base kit. Glue, paints and tools are not included in the package.
