British Ammunition Crate P59 is a Firma49 scenery accessory in 1:35 scale. A faithful replica of a British steel ammunition crate of the Second World War period, made by 3D printing in resin.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a vehicle kit but an accessory for a diorama or a vignette. The subject is the British steel ammunition crate designated P59, one of the standardized transport containers used by the British Army and Commonwealth units in the Second World War. Crates of this type turned up at artillery positions, on the beds of trucks and in depots, so they add credibility to a scene without much extra work.
The accessory is made by the Czech firm Firma49 by 3D printing in modeling resin at high resolution. Printing allows the pressed wall stiffeners, the hinges and the lid catches to be defined far more sharply than an injection mold can manage. The material can be sanded and drilled as usual and is bonded with super glue; it can be painted with ordinary modeling paints.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water so that no printing residue is left on the surface, and cut off the supports. Apply a thin primer, then the base green or brown according to the period and the theater. A steel crate looks faithful with light rubbing on the edges, a hint of rust on the catches and dust pigment at the bottom. Do not stand the crates neatly lined up in a diorama; a tilted or open crate looks more natural and breaks up the regularity of the scene.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the diorama base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
