A resin casting of the radiator grille for a model of the Chevrolet G7107 truck in 1:35 scale. It replaces the part from the plastic kit with a version whose mesh is finer in its division, something that is hard to produce in injection-molded plastic. It is a detail accessory, not a model of the vehicle - the base kit has to be bought separately. A variant for the late form of the grille is a separate item, so check before you buy which period you are building.
The Chevrolet G7107 was a truck with all-wheel drive and a payload of about one and a half tons, built in large numbers during the Second World War. It served in many forms as an all-purpose means of transport and was supplied to allied armies as well. During production the details of the front end changed, among them exactly the shape and division of the radiator grille - which is why an early and a late form are distinguished on models. At the same time the front of the vehicle is the place a viewer notices first on a finished model.
First wash the casting in lukewarm water with detergent, so that any residue of mold release agent disappears from the surface. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw and level the surface by sanding on paper laid on a flat board; sanding should be done with breathing protection, best of all wet. Cut the corresponding plastic part off the kit and level the surface, so that the grille seats without a gap. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, because cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Apply a primer before painting, which evens out the absorbency of the resin and the plastic. The fine mesh of the grille asks to be brought out: after the base coat a dark wash running into the recesses helps, together with light dry painting of the edges. Dust and mud effects on trucks concentrate precisely in the lower part of the front, so apply the pigments following on from the chassis.
This is an accessory part, not a stand-alone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
