Eduard 1:48 Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik exhaust stacks are resin exhaust stacks for a model of the Soviet Il-2 ground attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is a replacement for the plastic part from the kit, not a model.

A set of exhaust stacks cast in modeling resin, meant to replace the plastic exhausts on a model of the Il-2 Shturmovik in 1:48 scale. Exhausts are traditionally a weak point of injection-molded kits, because a steel mold cannot create a cavity in the outlet; the plastic part therefore looks like a solid cylinder. Resin castings are poured into a soft mold and can manage a hollow outlet. Eduard is a Czech manufacturer from Obrnice near Most.
The Il-2 Shturmovik is a Soviet ground attack aircraft with a liquid-cooled V12 engine housed in an armored bathtub. The exhaust gases leave through short stacks on both sides of the engine cowling. Because the outlets are close to the skin, they left prominent dark stains on the fuselage behind them, which are usually imitated on a model.
Even though the outlet is cast hollow, it pays to deepen it carefully with a hand drill or with the tip of a scalpel turned between the fingers; a sharp, thin outlet rim is the detail that immediately gives away good work in a photograph. Start the painting with a dark base and build the shade up in layers: first a rusty brown, over it a lighter ocher with a dry brush and finally a very faint cast of dark gray at the root of the stack, where the material is under the greatest heat load. Apply pigments dry with a soft brush and tap the excess off. Do the dark stain on the fuselage behind the exhausts with an airbrush, using heavily thinned paint in several light passes along the direction of the airflow, never in one heavy pass. Wash the casting in warm water with dish soap before painting to remove the mold release agent, and glue it with super glue.
