This is a set of figures in 1:35 scale depicting a dog and a doghouse. It is not a vehicle kit and not an aircraft kit, but a small accessory that gives the scene life and scale. The set is supplied unpainted.
Dioramas with military vehicles often look empty - they lack the detail that tells the viewer this is a real place where somebody lives. A doghouse by the wall of a cottage, by the gate of a yard or beside a country lane is exactly that kind of detail. It creates a natural focus for the eye, fills an otherwise dead corner of the base and at the same time shows clearly how big the vehicle standing next to it is. In 1:35 scale the dog reads well in the scene, so it is worth taking care over the painting.
Clean up and degrease the figure and the kennel first, then apply a thin primer - without it the paint holds badly on a smooth surface. Build the dog's coat from a darker base through gradual lightening of the back and the head; a dark wash will then emphasize the transition between the body and the legs. The kennel suits a wooden look: a lighter base, a brown glaze and the wood grain of the boards picked out with a dry brush. Where it meets the ground, add pigment or earth from the scene so the accessory does not look as though it has just been set down on the base. Finally, unify the surface with a matte varnish.
