The second variant of the numbered trio carries the name 1:35 Driver / civilian pilot N°2. It is a separate figure in a scale that is among the most used for ground hardware and that part of the aviation range keeps to as well, so the choice of an accompanying model stays wide. The numbered renditions make it easier to put together a group in which nobody is repeated.
A model without a human figure often looks empty and the viewer loses any sense of its real size. A figure placed beside it solves that shortcoming at once. It works by an open cockpit, next to the hood, on the wing of an aircraft or simply leaning against a wall in the background of the whole scene. Try the placement dry and look at the scene from the eye level of the viewer, not from above the bench; the figure will also reveal which way the scene is meant to be read.
Keep to the rule that civilian clothing tends to be more colorful than a service uniform, though not garish. Trousers and a jacket in two close tones look more believable than a pair of strongly contrasting colors. Mix the shadows by adding a complementary shade, not black, otherwise the whole area turns gray and loses depth. Let the paint cure properly before you reach for the varnish.
