1:35 easel anti-tank grenade launcher SPG-9

The SPG-9 grenade launcher in 1:35 scale

An accessory set capturing the SPG-9 anti-tank grenade launcher, that is a weapon which the crew sets up on a low tripod. In 1:35 scale it is a rewarding element for a scene: it takes up little room, but it gives a diorama action at once, because the work of several people always goes on around such a weapon.

The real subject

The SPG-9 is a Soviet recoilless weapon of 73 mm caliber, introduced in the 1960s and spread to a number of other armies. It fires from a low position and, besides armor-piercing ammunition, it has fragmentation rounds as well, so it serves against equipment as well as against infantry positions. The recoilless principle means that part of the gases goes out to the rear, and that is why a free space is left behind the weapon. The low silhouette and the folding tripod make it easier for the crew to change position quickly.

Building and painting tips

Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest down; with the thin tripod go carefully, so that the legs do not bend. Wash and degrease the parts before painting and lay on a base coat. The weapon is usually painted in a uniform muted green shade; it can be brought to life with a darker steel on the barrel, worn edges and dust at the foot of the tripod. The suitable glue and the procedure for assembly are given by the manufacturer in the instructions.

Who the set is for

For builders of dioramas with infantry and for collectors of weaponry in 1:35 scale who lack a squad's heavy weapon in a scene. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise, and the extent of the parts supplied is given by the manufacturer in the instructions.
