Replacement resin wheels for the German heavy tractor Faun L900 in the type 2 rendering. The tires are cast with the settled outline a vehicle standing under a full load has. 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Faun L900 D 567 was one of the heaviest trucks the German army took into ordinary service in the Second World War. The Faun works in Nuremberg built it as a massive three-axle vehicle with a wooden bed and a tarpaulin. Its daily work was to carry ammunition and material and to tow lowboy trailers, on which damaged tracked equipment was pulled back from the battlefield.
This set swaps the tires from the box for castings whose shape allows for the weight of a standing vehicle. The tread is flattened at the bottom, the sidewall arches above the contact area and the pattern widens where it touches the road. The model loses its air of floating above the base by it. The designation type 2 belongs to one particular tread design, which the supplier lists alongside two others.
The wheels are separated from the casting blocks, the contact face is leveled and the part is seated on the hub from the original chassis. Neither the frame nor the suspension is touched. It pays to free the surface of grease and mold release agent residue before spraying, because the fine structure of the pattern then answers well to a dry brush and to a dark wash.
A weighted wheel has a greater share in the result than one expects. The front axle of a heavy vehicle bore several tons and the tire leveled out noticeably under that weight. Anyone who leaves it perfectly round on a model does himself out of a legible hint that the machine is loaded and standing, rather than just drawn from a mold.
The dimensions match 1:35 scale. The contents of the package are the wheels alone; the kit of the tractor is a separate item.
