The sheet from the brand Star Decals is the fourth part of a range devoted to French fighting hardware in Africa and brings the markings of M4A2 tanks from units with the abbreviation RCA, that is from the regiments of the French African cavalry. The manufacturer dates the subjects to the years 1943 to 1944, when these units were moving over to American armament.
After the Allied landings in North Africa in the autumn of 1942 the French formations in Algeria and Morocco faced the task of replacing their obsolete prewar hardware. The agreements concluded at the start of 1943 meant the rearming of whole divisions, so cavalry regiments with a long colonial tradition became armored units within a few months. It was precisely this transition that gave rise to the distinctive combinations of national insignia, tactical numbers and vehicle names that are not seen on other fronts.
This version had a welded hull and, instead of a gasoline power plant, a pair of diesel units. The American army hardly kept it for its own needs, but supplied it to the Allies on a large scale, which is why it is the M4A2 of all of them that predominates in French photographs of the time.
Level the base with a gloss varnish, otherwise a matte shadow will appear around a subject. On the roughly cast surface of the turret sides a softener and fine pricking of any bubbles that arise with a pin will help. Once dry, go over the model with a matte varnish, and only then come the dust and the mud.
The package is made up of a decal sheet with instructions; a tank and paints do not belong with it.
