1:35 French soldier WWI N°2 is a standalone resin figure of a French soldier of the First World War, 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A single figure in resin, the second in the numbered French line from Black Dog. French figures appear in the modeling range less often than British or German ones, so this is a welcome item for anyone who wants to build a Western Front scene with a cast outside the usual two sides.
The most striking feature of the French look after 1915 is the light blue-gray shade of the uniform, called horizon blue at the time. It was accompanied by a crested steel helmet named after its designer, Adrian. The combination of cool blue with the leather brown of the equipment gives the figure a palette that differs clearly from khaki and gray-green figures, and so it catches the eye at once in a diorama.
Horizon blue shades badly with black, because it quickly turns gray. The better route is to brighten the base with white on the areas exposed to light and to add a blue-violet tone into the folds; the contrast then stays clean. Dull the metal parts, leave the helmet lightly coated with dust and give the boots and the bottoms of the trouser legs an earthy patina. Finally go over the edges of the equipment with a lighter tone so that the figure does not disappear into the terrain.
