An add-on decal set from Quinta Studio for a model of the Fw 190 fighter in the A-8/R-8 version in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit and not a resin set but a sheet of decals with which you transfer the additional armor plates onto a finished paint job. The set is cut for one particular kit in this scale, so check before buying that it fits the model you are building.
The Rüstsatz R-8, a factory conversion set, provided additional armor for the Fw 190 A-8 version. The extra steel plates protected the cockpit and the sides of the fuselage during attacks on heavy bombers, where the aircraft flew in at short range against concentrated defensive fire. The price of that protection was greater weight and worse maneuverability, so machines modified this way were used only in a narrowly defined role.
Decals need a smooth, gloss and fully cured surface; on a matte finish air is trapped under the film and the edges go white. Cut the sheet close around the artwork so that as little carrier film as possible is left. Soak briefly and let the decal slide off the backing rather than pulling it with tweezers. Once it is in place, blot the water with a paper towel and press the air bubbles out with a soft brush from the center toward the edges. Let it dry thoroughly and only then flatten it down and weather it. With older sheets it pays to try one marking at the edge first, because the film becomes brittle with time.
This is an accessory for a kit, not a complete model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
