The kit captures the twin-engine turboprop transport aircraft An-8, known in the code designation of the North Atlantic Alliance as Camp. According to the name this is the arrangement with an auxiliary power unit, that is with an auxiliary turbine unit for starting the engines and powering the systems on the ground, which shows on the aircraft in a different installation and shape of the cover. Amodel is among the makers of short runs, so it offers subjects unavailable elsewhere, but more hand work goes with the build.
The An-8 is a military transport aircraft with a high-mounted wing, two turboprop engines and a rear end adapted for a cargo ramp. The layout with a beam-mounted tail and a ramp allowed bulky cargo to be loaded straight from ground level and dropped in flight. The aircraft arose in the second half of the 1950s and became the design basis for the later family of turboprop transport machines of the same design bureau.
On short-run kits a dry fit is fundamental. Count on cleaning the parts of molding lugs, on fine-tuning the fit and on filling the joints, above all where the wing and the engine nacelles meet the fuselage. A high-mounted wing is sensitive to the dihedral angle, so check the seating before gluing and reinforce the joint from the inside. Mask the cabin glazing before painting. The large areas of the fuselage are best sprayed with an airbrush over a base coat, which will reveal any remaining scratches. Use a gloss intermediate varnish before laying the decals on, unify the surface at the end with a matte or semi-gloss varnish and suggest the grime of service around the engines and the landing gear only sparingly.
