1:35 German Soldier in Russia 1941

The set

A figure of a German soldier in 1:35 scale. According to the name, the subject is set on the Eastern Front in 1941. The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; how many parts the figure consists of and what pose it is modeled in is stated on the box and in the instructions from the manufacturer.

Building and painting

First rid the parts of excess material and of the traces of production: cut them away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and carefully sand the remainder down. Choose the glue to suit the material of the parts and follow the instructions from the manufacturer. Dry-fit the figure and check that it stands naturally and that the joints of the arms and the head line up; fill and sand the seams, or they will show once the paint is on. Wash and degrease the surface before painting and apply a thin base coat. Painting usually goes from the large areas of the clothing through the gear to the face and the small details. The folds of the cloth come out after shading them with a darker tone and lightening the raised areas, but apply the paint in thin coats.

Where the figure fits

1:35 is the most widespread scale for military vehicles, so the figure goes with armor, vehicles and artillery of the same scale. A single figure beside a model shows the real size of the machine and turns a display model into a small scene; with a base and a few accessories it becomes a diorama of its own.

Who it is for

The set suits modelers of German Second World War equipment as well as anyone who wants to try painting figures. Paints, thinner, glue and tools are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
