About product

HL210/230 exhaust mufflers for the Tiger I early and mid, 1:35

An accessory set for building the Tiger I heavy tank in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of the vehicle but a replacement for the pair of exhaust mufflers on the rear plate of the hull, that is, a place that is clearly visible on a finished model and on which the level of detail shows. According to the name the set is reckoned for two vehicles and holds four open and four closed covers, so you can choose the form matching a particular machine. The set is cut for Border Model and Rye Field Model kits, because the same set also exists in a variant for another manufacturer and without that detail you could not tell them apart.

The real subject

The Tiger I was powered by a twelve-cylinder Maybach engine, in the first production runs the HL210 type and later the HL230. The exhaust pipes ran down both sides of the rear plate into vertical mufflers, which were protected from above by sheet-metal covers. The form of the mufflers and of the covers changed gradually during production, which is why the sets are distinguished by production period; this one matches the period given in the name, that is, from January to August 1943.

Usage tips

Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before building and let them dry out properly, so that the base coat holds well. Cut the casting remains away with a saw or a knife, level the surfaces with abrasive paper and protect your airways while sanding. Glue the small parts with cyanoacrylate glue, because ordinary cement for plastic need not work reliably here. On the rear plate, try the fit dry beforehand, so that both the spacing and the angle of the mufflers are right. After the base coat is sprayed, the exhausts are usually toned with rust shades and pigments; leave the covers in the color of the vehicle, so that the difference in materials reads clearly.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Tiger I in the version matching the period from January to August 1943
  • Builders who object to the coarser rendering of the parts from the base kit on the rear plate
  • Owners of Border Model and Rye Field Model kits in 1:35 scale
  • More experienced modelers used to working with cyanoacrylate glue and sanding

This is an accessory set, not a model of the vehicle. It is supplied unpainted; the base kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is an accessory set that replaces the exhaust mufflers on the rear plate; you need the base Tiger I kit separately.

According to the name it is cut for Border Model and Rye Field Model kits in 1:35 scale. With other kits, check the fit dry beforehand.

The name gives two vehicles and four open as well as four closed covers.

We recommend cyanoacrylate glue, and leveling the surfaces with abrasive paper before gluing. Ordinary cement for plastic need not hold the joint.
