An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer Roden. The package joins two separate units: the Holt 75 tracked artillery tractor and the heavy 8-inch howitzer that the tractor tows. The result is an unusual combination from the period of the First World War, which draws attention in a display case at once.
The Holt 75 was an American tracked tractor originally developed for agriculture. Its ability to move in muddy terrain made it a common means of moving heavy guns in places where neither horse teams nor wheeled vehicles succeeded. The machine has characteristic tall track units, an open position for the crew and a guide wheel at the front. The 8-inch howitzer was one of the heavy artillery pieces of its day: it fired at high elevations, it had a massive carriage with large wheels and without a tractor it was practically impossible to move.
Build both parts separately first and spray them separately; you get to joining them only at the end. On the track units, check on a flat surface that the tractor stands without rocking. Let the tracks sag slightly between the support points, as a taut track looks unnatural. Spray the model with a base coat and only then with the covering shade; on the wooden parts of the carriage and the wheels a base in a warm tone pays off. The weathering is the main theme here: mud on the tracks and the underside, wear on the towing eyes and a dusty upper surface will set the model apart from a toy. Finish the wood with thin oils or with a wash drawn along the grain.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
