A resin figure in 1:35 scale from Copper State Models. The figure is modeled in an upright, still stance, which makes it a versatile accessory for a scene: a standing figure can be placed practically anywhere beside a vehicle and calls for no elaborate composition around it. The uniform matches the First World War period.
The resin casting is divided into several parts, usually the torso, the head, the arms and small items of kit. Before building, wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap, or the remains of mold release agent will stop the paint adhering. Cut the casting blocks off with a thin saw or a cutting disc at a distance from the part and level the face with a file; sand wet and with respiratory protection. Bond the joints with cyanoacrylate glue. With a standing figure, check that the feet seat on the base across their whole area — otherwise the figure appears to fall forward or backward in a display case. Fill any small gaps at the shoulders and sand them so that the run of the cloth continues smoothly.
Do not skip the primer coat with resin; it evens the surface out and reveals small bubbles. Build the uniform up in coats from the base tone toward shadows and highlights; on an upright figure the vertical folds stand out and are worth emphasizing. Paint the face separately in good light. Because the figure has no pronounced action, what decides the impression is the cleanness of the paintwork and the placing: stand it dry beside the vehicle and look for the position where its gaze and angle follow on from the rest of the scene.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
