The Soviet KV-5 super-heavy tank, carried in the documentation as Object 225, in 1:35 scale. The project of the summer of 1941 called for a hundred-ton machine, but no prototype was ever built. The box holds unpainted plastic sprues.
Responsibility details are not available.
Object 225 belonged to the super-heavy machines that were being born in the first months of the war in 1941. The designers at the Kirov works reckoned on a weight of around a hundred tons and on armor 150 to 180 millimeters thick. The main turret was to carry a 107 millimeter gun and a second small turret a machine gun; it sat high above the hull so that the gunner could see over the whole machine and the ground in front of it.
Work began in June 1941 and ended practically straight away. The German advance closed off Leningrad, and the besieged city had no capacity for development, let alone for building such a colossus; priority went to types that could be produced immediately and in large numbers. No prototype was built, and only drawings and calculations of the period remain. The model therefore shows a machine that nobody ever saw in combat, and yet it is not based on fantasy but on the project documentation.
The large flat armor plates leave room for welds, rivets and traces of manufacture, and it is precisely these that decide whether the finished piece comes across as heavy military equipment. On such broad surfaces it pays to mix lighter and darker transitions of the base green, otherwise the finish looks flat. Because the subject was never photographed, the choice of national insignia, numbers and degree of damage is entirely up to the builder.
Inside are plastic sprues to be nipped off and glued. Paints, glue and putty are not included and it is sensible to have them ready beforehand.
