About product

Friulmodel metal tracks 1:35 – M-108 / M109 / Paladin, T-136 type (early)

The set holds individual links in white metal, which are threaded onto the supplied wire and joined into a fully workable track with a realistic sag. It is a metal replacement for the plastic tracks; it is not a model of the vehicle but a detail accessory. The set represents the early T-136 type of track with rubber pads and is intended for models of the American self-propelled howitzers of the M108 and M109 series, including the Paladin upgrade, in 1:35 scale.

The real subject

The M108 and the M109 are American self-propelled howitzers built on a common tracked chassis; the M108 carried a 105 mm and the M109 a 155 mm howitzer. The M109 type became one of the most widely used self-propelled howitzers in the world and saw a series of upgrades — the best known is the Paladin version (M109A6) with a markedly improved fire control and command system. The vehicles served throughout the Cold War and in later conflicts as well.

Fitting and tips

Clean the flash off the links, lay them out into two tracks and join them with the wire threaded through to form the pins; secure the joints with super glue. Blacken the metal with a bluing solution or spray it with a primer and paint. The rubber pads and the metal guide part offer rewarding room for color contrast and weathering with pigments. Assemble the track right on the running gear of the model, so that it settles well.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers of modern American artillery vehicles
  • Builders who want a realistic metal track with a sag instead of plastic
  • More advanced modelers with experience of metal parts

This is an accessory, that is replacement tracks, not a complete model. The kit of the vehicle, glue and paints are not included in the package.
