A turned M284 howitzer barrel for the M109 Paladin self-propelled howitzer in 1:35 scale from the brand PANZER ART. A replacement part for a part-built model, not a stand-alone kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the brand PANZER ART holds a turned M284 howitzer barrel, the one carried by the American M109 self-propelled howitzer in the Paladin version. It is an accessory for a base kit, not a model of the vehicle. The turned part has a straight axis, a circular cross-section with no parting seam and an open muzzle, which on a long plastic barrel tends to be the greatest weakness.
The M109 is an American tracked self-propelled howitzer of 155 mm caliber with a rotating turret, used in many armies. The version designated Paladin was given a new barrel assembly with the M284 howitzer, which is longer than on the older versions and changes the overall silhouette of the vehicle. It is precisely by the length and shape of the barrel that the individual versions of the M109 are most easily told apart on a model, so replacing the barrel is a routine step when building a particular modification.
Cut the plastic barrel off at the mantlet and level the mating surface, so that the new barrel sits on the centerline of the turret. Degrease the part before gluing and use cyanoacrylate glue; cement for polystyrene does not hold on it. Apply a primer before painting, as a smooth surface otherwise takes paint badly. Leave the muzzle dark, and a fine dusting of pigment suits the barrel, so that it does not look like a separate foreign part.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
