This is not a model of the truck on its own but an add-on conversion set for a model of the military M35A2. It turns a standard army truck into a brush fire truck, that is a cross-country fire vehicle meant for responses in woodland and open country, of the kind American brigades and forestry services built from surplus army vehicles. The 1:35 scale is the most common for ground vehicles.
The M35A2 is an American two-and-a-half-ton truck with all-wheel drive, nicknamed the deuce and a half in the army. Characteristic of it are the multifuel diesel engine, the high ground clearance and the three-axle chassis. It served from the 1950s for many decades and became one of the most widespread military trucks of all. After being retired, thousands of them went into civilian hands. It was exactly its mobility off road that made it a favorite basis for fire trucks used where an ordinary tanker cannot get: onto forest tracks, into fields and onto slopes.
Clean the surface of dirt before painting. Civilian fire conversions tend to be mismatched in color: bright red or yellow on the body against an older coat on the chassis looks very believable. Leave the chassis and the underside of the bed dusty and muddy, while the body and the tank stay cleaner. Bring out the recesses with a wash and suggest the worn edges with fine rubbing through in a lighter shade.
