An M68 barrel for the Merkava Mk.1 and Mk.2 1:35 from PANZER ART: a replacement barrel for a model of the Israeli tank.
Responsibility details are not available.
A replacement barrel of the M68 gun for a model of the Israeli main battle tank Merkava in the Mk.1 and Mk.2 forms, in 1:35 scale. The barrel is the part a plastic kit copes with worst technologically: the two halves have to be glued together, the parting seam has to be laboriously sanded away and the shape is lost in the process. A replacement part sidesteps that problem, because it is made in one piece and the muzzle is genuinely drilled out.
The Merkava is an Israeli main battle tank with its engine placed at the front, so the powerplant forms another layer of protection for the crew. It is exactly this layout that is characteristic of the type and sets it apart from most tanks of its time. The early Mk.1 and Mk.2 versions carried a 105 mm gun derived from a British design, which in its American form was designated M68.
Cut the plastic barrel off the model with a saw and level the mating surface so that the replacement part does not sit crooked. Wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent if it is resin, and glue it with super glue. Apply a primer before painting. The thermal sleeve on the barrel looks faithful if you go over it after the base coat with a dark penetrating coat and lightly bring out the edges, because that is exactly where a canvas sleeve wears.
The part is supplied unpainted and it is an accessory, not a kit. The model, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
