A detail set of a heavy machine gun in 1:35 scale, cast in resin. It is not a vehicle kit but an accessory with which figures, a firing position in a diorama or a mounting on a model of equipment are fitted out. The subject is the weapon designated MG 37(t) in German service.
This is a heavy machine gun of 7.92 mm caliber developed and built in Czechoslovakia in the 1930s, air-cooled by design and fed from a cartridge belt. After 1939 both production and the weapons in service passed into German hands, where the weapon carried a designation with the suffix for captured equipment of Czech origin. It was used above all in permanent fortifications and as a mounted weapon in armored vehicles, where the robust construction and the easy barrel change proved themselves. The letter in the designation refers to the country of origin, not to a variant of the caliber.
First wash the resin parts in warm soapy water because of the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surfaces with a file, using respiratory protection while sanding. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as glue for plastic does not hold on resin. Apply a base coat before painting. The weapon looks true in a dark steel shade with the edges slightly polished, and the wooden parts can be suggested with a glaze. Fine dust and traces of oil around the breech help to even the weapon out with the rest of the scene.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and figures are not included in the package.
