An injection-molded plastic kit of the self-propelled tank destroyer designated Marder I, built on the chassis of the French FCM 36 light tank. 1:35 scale, made by ICM. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The number of parts, the contents of the decal sheet and the presence of photo-etched parts are stated on the box. A note for orientation: the same subject in the same scale is also made by other marques, and this item is the kit from ICM.
Marder I is a collective designation for the improvised self-propelled anti-tank weapons that were created in the Second World War by converting captured French chassis. The variant based on the FCM 36 used the chassis of the light tank with its characteristic faceted armored hull and added an open superstructure with an anti-tank gun of 7.5 cm caliber. The superstructure protected the crew only from the front and the sides and was open at the top. The vehicles were built in small numbers only and were used above all in Western Europe; technically it was a way of getting a powerful gun onto a tracked chassis quickly and cheaply.
The open superstructure means that the fighting compartment can be seen into, so paint and pick out the interior and the gun mount before you close the hull. The running gear and the tracks are more comfortable to finish and paint separately, and only then to seat on the hull. After the base shade a thin wash in the recesses and on the edges works well, followed by a dry brush on the raised areas. Build up mud and dust effects from the bottom upward with pigments or thin effect paints and do not overdo them; small chips of the finish on the edges of the superstructure will give the model credibility in scale.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
