Injection-molded plastic kit of the German tank destroyer Marder III Ausf.H (Sd.Kfz.138) in 1:35 scale from Italeri. According to the manufacturer the model has link and length tracks (links and longer runs), decals for several marking options, and figures of the crew complement it.
The Marder III was a German tank destroyer created by mounting the powerful 7.5 cm PaK 40 anti-tank gun on the proven chassis of the Czechoslovak light tank Panzer 38(t). In the Ausf.H version the engine was placed at the rear and the weapon sat in an open superstructure protected by sloped armor shields in the middle of the vehicle, which gave the crew better protection than the earlier layout. The Marder thus gave infantry and reconnaissance units a mobile weapon able to destroy even well armored enemy tanks. The open superstructure meant weak protection from above but high firepower for a low weight.
Finish the running gear and the link and length tracks first, fitting them carefully in sections, and only then close up the hull and mount the superstructure with the gun. Keep the open fighting compartment accessible as long as possible for painting the interior and the gun. Spray a primer before painting. A three-color camouflage (dunkelgelb, green, brown) suits later German vehicles; create the weathering with washes in the engraved lines, drybrushing on the edges and pigments for mud and dust in the running gear. The crew figures bring the scene to life, so paint them separately and fit them last.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
