Armory 1:48 SR-71A Blackbird – late type wheels with bulged tires is a resin replacement set of landing gear wheels for the reconnaissance aircraft kit in 1:48.
Responsibility details are not available.
An add-on set of resin wheels for the kit of the SR-71A Blackbird strategic reconnaissance aircraft in 1:48. This is not a model of the aircraft but a replacement for the wheels from the plastic kit. The tires are cast with a bulge where they touch the ground, so the model looks as though it stands under its own weight. According to the name this is the late pattern of wheel.
The Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird was a two-seat American reconnaissance aircraft built for long flights above Mach 3 at great altitude. The airframe was largely titanium, because it heated up severely in flight. Each main gear leg carried three wheels that retracted into the fuselage. The tires contained aluminum powder for heat resistance and had a conspicuously light silver-gray shade, a detail that often gets overlooked when a model is painted.
Wash the resin parts in warm water with dish soap and get the mold release agent off them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the face on a hard surface so that all three wheels on one leg settle evenly. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and sanded wet and with your airways protected. Apply a primer before painting. Use a light gray with a metallic cast for the tire, and bring out the hub with an aluminum shade and a fine wash. Keep dust and traces of landing discreet, as the aircraft was kept in good condition in service.
This is an add-on set, not a model kit. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
