Artwox Model 1:700 a masking sheet for a model of SMS Derfflinger 1916 is a set of self-adhesive masks for spraying the deck areas of the battlecruiser from the Flyhawk 1300 kit. On its own it is not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Pre-cut self-adhesive masks from Artwox Model for spraying the deck of a model of the German battlecruiser SMS Derfflinger as fitted out in 1916. The masks follow the outline of the deck areas, so the boundary between wood and steel comes out crisp even where tape would buckle into curves. The sheet is cut for the Flyhawk 1300 kit.
The sequence of coats decides. The simplest route leads through the shade of wood as the first coat over the whole deck, sticking the masks on once it has cured and spraying the rest in naval gray. The reverse order is possible, but it is harder to control: gray covers light wood less readily than it seems, and every repair means masking again. Give the paint time between coats, as a soft film will peel off along with the surface when the mask is removed.
Take the masks off at a shallow angle, pulling back over themselves rather than straight upwards; the edge of the paint then breaks more cleanly. If a trace of adhesive is left on the plastic after removal, wipe it off with a cloth and a little alcohol, but only once the paint has cured completely. Small seepage is easier to put right with a thin brush than with further masking. Finally unify the deck and the superstructures with a matte clear coat.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a standalone model. Neither the kit nor paints are included in the package.
