An extensive set of color raised decals from the brand Kelik for fitting out a model of the transport helicopter Mi-8MT, or rather of its export version the Mi-17, in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the helicopter but an accessory: the decals are applied to the parts from the box and give them printed coloring and a three-dimensional structure. The instrument panel, the overhead panel, the side consoles and the belts thus look three-dimensional without painting by hand. In 1:35 scale a helicopter is a large model with a glazed pilot's cockpit and usually an accessible cargo compartment as well, so an elaborate interior shows in the result more markedly than on a fighter aircraft. The set is cut for the Trumpeter kit in that scale, so compare the shape of the parts with your model beforehand.
The Mi-8 and the versions derived from it are among the most widespread transport helicopters of all. The modernized Mi-8MT version received more powerful engines and an auxiliary power unit, which shifted its performance at high altitudes and in a hot climate; it was sold for export under the designation Mi-17. The machine has a roomy cargo cabin, large side windows and an intricate pilot's cockpit with a densely populated instrument panel and overhead panel, which is ideal for detailing.
Spray the interior parts with primer, then with the base shade and coat them with gloss varnish, so that the decals settle without silvering. Soak the decal briefly in lukewarm water, slide it off the paper and settle it with a soft brush; the raised layer is thicker than that of an ordinary decal, so go carefully with aggressive softeners. Proceed part by part and let each area dry through: with a large cockpit it easily happens that a decal that has not yet dried shifts during handling. Finally cover it with matte varnish and add a subtle dark wash in the recesses.
The set is supplied as a sheet of decals. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
