A photo-etched set of stowage bins for the Canadian wheeled vehicles of the LAV-3 family in 1:35 scale is an accessory for a kit you already own, not a standalone model. It replaces coarse plastic bins with thin-walled brass parts from Voyager Model. Intended for the Trumpeter kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an add-on set of photo-etched brass sheet made by Voyager Model. It is not a kit of the vehicle and not a finished model but a set of parts meant for reworking a kit you already have at home. What it holds is the external stowage bins, that is a detail that on plastic moldings tends to be needlessly bulky because of the injection molding process.
The LAV III is a Canadian eight-wheeled armored vehicle derived from the Swiss Piranha family. With the Canadian army it replaced the older wheeled carriers and also became the starting point for the American Stryker family. Vehicles of this family carry a series of external stowage bins on the sides and the rear, in which the crew and the embarked party carry personal equipment, tools and materiel. The bins are of sheet, with thin walls, pronounced edges and visible hinges and catches.
The main reason to reach for photo-etched parts on stowage bins in particular is the wall thickness. Injection-molded plastic has to have a certain minimum substance because of the mold, so a bin looks like a solid block with a suggested lid. Brass sheet solves that proportion, because the wall stays optically thin and a lid can even be left ajar. Before building, leave the parts on the fret and cut them off only at the moment of use, best with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface rather than with nippers. Take the bends over a photo-etch bender or at least over a steel ruler, and bend the edge gradually rather than in one movement. Glue the assembled bins with cyanoacrylate applied a tiny drop at a time with a stick or a wire, so that the glue does not run over the surface. Before painting, degrease the brass and cover it with a good base coat, otherwise paint does not hold on the smooth metal. For weathering, a darker wash into the corners and fine wear on the edges work well, and on metal that looks convincing. According to the manufacturer the accessory is cut for the Trumpeter kit.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
