This item is not a model of the vehicle but a photo-etched upgrade set from the maker Voyager Model. It is intended for detailing a model of the American M114A1E1 armored reconnaissance vehicle in 1:35 scale. Photo-etched sheet replaces those elements that cannot be cast thin enough in injection-molded plastic, that is typically covers, grilles, brackets, clasps and fine holders for kit. After the photo-etched parts have been used, a model looks considerably finer, especially when viewed from above, where most of this detail is visible.
The M114 was an American light tracked armored vehicle of the 1960s intended for command and reconnaissance tasks. It had a welded aluminum hull, a low silhouette and was conceived as a complement to the carriers of the M113 series. The M114A1E1 version differs from the basic form above all in its cupola with a 20 mm weapon in place of a heavy machine gun. The vehicle was deployed in Southeast Asia, where its limits in the terrain showed, and it therefore stayed in service for a fairly short time. That is exactly what makes it an interesting and not overly familiar subject today.
Cut the parts out of the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, and never break them out. Deburr the remains of the tabs with a fine file, so that the part seats with no gap. Make the bends along the etched grooves, best of all in a photo-etch bending tool or between two blades. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minimal amount with a toothpick. Degrease the sheet before painting and spray on a primer. On aluminum vehicles it pays to weather sparingly, because the hull does not rust like steel, so dust and worn paint rather than maps of rust.
This is an add-on photo-etched set, not a model. The base kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
