The set does not represent a whole kit but concentrates on a single assembly: the wheel bands of the D8500 tractor. The 1:35 scale is the home scale of military dioramas, so at this size the machine is most often built into a scene with vehicles, buildings and figures.
An agricultural machine breaks the monotony of a purely military subject and gives it a civilian dimension. It appears at farms occupied by troops, at field depots, on a country road and at an abandoned holding. It is in a scene like that that the wheels are most on show, because they touch the groundwork and carry the marks of soil, dust and mud.
The D8500 tractor comes from German agricultural production of the late 1930s. The design went for simplicity, strength and easy repair in field conditions, a quality the machine put to use in the war years as well. A model of this type will therefore find a place in periods from peaceful prewar farming to a countryside marked by war.
When painting, leave the lower parts of the wheels darker than the rest of the machine and mist the transition so that it looks natural. A layer of dust settled right up to the center of the wheel will do more for credibility than the most accurate shape. The set is an accessory for a finished kit and does not replace the vehicle itself.
