A scenery accessory for building dioramas in 1:35 scale. Unlike a picket fence, the boards are laid tight against one another, so a solid, opaque wall is formed. This version uses narrower boards, which creates a denser, finer pattern of vertical joints and suits anywhere the fence should be prominent but not coarse. It is supplied as a laser-cut wooden part for assembly.
Solid board fences were built around yards, workshops, storehouses and farm service areas — anywhere that was not meant to be seen into. Narrower boards were typical of older buildings and of a fence put together out of whatever was available. That is exactly why they suit both rural and urban scenes: a solid wall creates a background in a diorama against which the main model stands out well, and at the same time it naturally hides the edge of the base.
Break the parts carefully out of the carrier sheet and true the cut edges with fine abrasive paper. Glue the wood with thin PVA wood glue or with cyanoacrylate; before building, let the assembly dry out completely on a flat surface so that the fence does not warp. On a solid fence it pays to paint each board in a slightly different shade — a set of three thinned browns and one gray glaze is enough and the fence loses its machine-made look at once. A dry brush in a lighter tone brings out the wood grain, while a dark wash deepens the joints between the boards. Dust the bottom few millimeters with pigment in the shade of the terrain.
The accessory is supplied as a laser-cut wooden part for assembly, unpainted. The glue, the paints and any further scenery materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
