A kit of the German Panzer IV medium tank in the Ausf. G version from the RYE FIELD MODEL brand. The name expressly gives workable tracks of the Winterketten type, that is the widened winter tracks, which with this brand come as assemblable link tracks. The 1:35 scale is the most widespread one for armor, so figures, accessories and diorama material are easy to find for the model. Check the particular number of parts and the rest of the contents of the box against the breakdown on the box.
The Panzer IV in the Ausf. G version marked a turning point in the role of the whole type. While the older versions carried a short 75 mm gun meant mainly to support infantry, the Ausf. G was armed with the long 7.5 cm KwK 40 gun, which turned the Panzer IV into a full antitank weapon. The version went through a run of changes during production, from the muzzle brake through thicker frontal armor to added side skirts. The widened Winterketten tracks appeared on the Eastern Front as a response to narrow tracks sinking in snow and in deep mud. The larger contact area lowered the ground pressure and improved mobility.
Prepare and assemble the workable link tracks separately, ideally before they go onto the running gear, and let them cure properly. Finish and paint the road wheels and the lower hull before the tracks get into place. Apply thin plastic cement with a brush into the seam so that small detail is not drowned. After the base shade, layered weathering works well on this subject, that is a dark wash in the hollows, wear along the edges and finally dust and mud pigments on the tracks and the lower hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
