Colt M1895-14 Potato Digger 1:72 is a resin accessory from GasPatch models: a pair of machine guns of the later production form for finishing a model.

This is a detail set, not a kit. According to the name there are two pieces of the Colt machine gun in the form designated 1914 in the package, cast in resin for 1:72 scale. The manufacturer also runs the older baseline version of the same weapon in parallel, so if you are building a particular machine and the correct type matters to you, pay attention to which designation you need — in this scale the two differ only in fine shapes, but in a cabinet the knowledgeable will tell.
The Colt M1895 was among the first series-built gas-operated machine guns: beneath the barrel a swinging lever moved, and the weapon took its nickname Potato Digger from it. The version designated by the year 1914 represents a later production form of the same design, adapted for the ammunition base of the day. Weapons of this range served in the First World War period with ground units and for training, and in design they preceded the later Marlin aviation machine guns.
Resin behaves differently from plastic: it is harder, more brittle and will not take paint until you have washed the release agent off it. The procedure is always the same — a soapy bath, drying, cutting the casting block off, cleaning the cut up with fine wet abrasive and only then primer. It works well to spray the whole part with a dark color and to build the metal shades up in thin layers; a uniform silver looks unnatural in 1:72. Finally accent the small areas with a dark wash and leave the rest to a dry brush.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as resin parts to be finished. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
