About product

Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger I Ausf. E in its late form, 1:35 scale

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Tiger I heavy tank in the late production version. The finished model measures 24.1 cm. The tracks can be assembled from parts by the link-and-length method, or glueable tracks of a flexible material can be used; the manufacturer offers both routes. The decal sheet covers four marking options and the whole boxing is rated as a more demanding build, not as a model for a first attempt.

The real subject

The Tiger I came into being as an answer to the Soviet tanks against which the German medium types were not enough. Its main weapon was an 88 mm gun derived from an anti-aircraft gun, which could hit a target at a range from which it stayed out of its opponent's effective reach. The late production series differ from the early machines in a number of details: a different turret cupola, all-steel road wheels without a rubber tire and the simplifications production arrived at toward the end of the war. Over a thousand were built in all, which is few for such an expensive and complicated machine, but the reputation the Tiger won for itself was exceptional.

Building and painting tips

Assemble and paint the running gear before the fenders and the tools go onto the hull. The tracks are easier to paint separately and to fit last. The German late scheme tends to be in three colors and looks best sprayed with an airbrush with soft transitions. At the end come washes into the recesses, rubbed-through edges and dust on the underside of the hull and on the tracks.

Who the model is for

  • Builders of German Second World War equipment
  • Experienced modelers who can cope with assembling tracks from parts
  • Collectors of famous types in 1:35 scale
  • Builders of dioramas from the closing stages of the war

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

According to the manufacturer you can choose assembly from parts by the link-and-length method, or use glueable tracks of a flexible material.

Four; the decals are part of the kit.

Above all in a different turret cupola and in all-steel road wheels without a rubber tire, to which further simplifications of late production are added.

The manufacturer rates it among the more demanding ones. Assembling the tracks from individual parts calls for patience, but the glueable tracks make the work simpler.
