An injection-molded plastic kit of the Pz.Kpfw.IV medium tank in the Ausf.H version in 1:35 scale. The package is conceived as two builds in one box, so you can build the model either as the early or as the mid production version. Besides the plastic the set holds photo-etched parts, a metal barrel and a plastic alternative to it, four figures, a scraper for applying Zimmerit paste and decals for fourteen marking options. The tracks are provided in two ways: as a combination of longer runs with individual links, and as fully workable links, and static or working suspension can be chosen as well.
The Pz.Kpfw.IV was the medium tank of the German army of the Second World War and went through a whole series of modifications during production. The Ausf.H version was among the most numerously built and carried a 75 mm gun with a long barrel. Its hallmarks were the additional protective plate screens of the so-called Schurzen type on the sides of the hull and around the turret, thicker frontal hull armor and, on part of the production, also the protective paste against magnetic charges. Between the early and the mid batch the details of the running gear, the exhausts and the turret fittings differed, and that is exactly what the kit lets you tell apart.
Work from the bottom up: the running gear first and only then the sides of the hull, so that you have access to the suspension arms and the rollers. If you choose the workable tracks, assemble them separately, let them settle overnight and fit them only after the base coat has been painted. The metal barrel needs no seam cleanup, but it holds paint only over a primer, preferably a metal primer. Apply the paste imitating Zimmerit onto a thin layer of putty or two-part compound and create the texture with the enclosed scraper while the compound is still pliable. When painting, leave the surfaces deliberately uneven, as a single flat shade looks lifeless on a large hull. Washes into the recesses and pigments for mud and dust effects on the running gear come at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
