1:35 Ruin-Eastern Europe is the ruin of an Eastern European house for a diorama in 1:35 scale from the Plusmodel brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
This building element from the Plusmodel diorama range points to the architecture of Eastern Europe – a plain building without ornament, of the kind that made up the buildings of the countryside as well as of smaller towns. It belongs in a display case as a set piece; a model on its own it is not. The 1:35 scale is given in the name of the item.
A plain damaged building is rewarding precisely through its restraint: it competes with neither the equipment nor the figures and at the same time it places a scene unambiguously in geography. It suits views from the Eastern Front as well as postwar themes and takes the neighborhood of muddy terrain, a fence or a heap of wood well. For a modeler it is at the same time an undemanding way to a complete view without extensive buildings.
With ruins it holds that a damaged place has to have a reason – a crack should run out from a corner, an opening or an edge, not from the middle of an undamaged wall. Peel the plaster away irregularly and reveal brickwork in a different tone under it. Sink the base of the building into the terrain so that it does not stand on the surface, and cover the transition with rubble, grass and a deposit of earth. Draw muddy traces a little way up the wall. Put a dark base into the openings left by the windows, otherwise the wall will come across as a paper set piece.
