This injection-molded plastic kit from the manufacturer Trumpeter captures the Russian eight-wheeled amphibious armored personnel carrier BTR-80A in 1:35 scale. The A version differs from the basic BTR-80 in a turret with a 30 mm automatic cannon, which markedly strengthens the firepower of the vehicle. The kit is richly broken down - it contains over 520 plastic parts on a number of sprues, a separate upper and lower hull, photo-etched parts (fret metal), rubber tires and a tow cable. Both the lower and the upper shell are molded with a multi-part tooling for faithful shapes.
The BTR-80 is an eight-wheeled (8x8) amphibious armored personnel carrier developed in the Soviet Union and taken into service in 1986 as the successor to the BTR-60 and BTR-70 types. It serves to carry infantry on the battlefield and to give it fire support, and it also manages reconnaissance and patrol duties. Thanks to all-wheel drive and water jets it is fully amphibious. The BTR-80A variant was given a new turret with a 30 mm cannon, which makes it possible to destroy lightly armored targets and airborne targets more effectively.
Before closing the hull up, assemble and paint the interior details and prepare the running gear carefully - on an eight-wheeled vehicle the correct seating of the axles and the tires is the key to the model standing level. Paint the rubber tires a flat black-gray and dust them lightly with pigments. A dark wash in the recesses and the engraved lines suits the broken-up surface splendidly; apply mud and dust effects with pigments mainly to the underside, the wheels and the wheel wells. Lay the paint on with an airbrush, use liquid modeling cement on the plastic and glue the photo-etched parts with super glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
