The Ural 63095 Typhoon-U is a Russian heavy wheeled armored vehicle from the Typhoon family. The design aims at protecting the crew against mines, roadside devices and ambush, and it therefore has a raised armored cab and a resistant floor. The abbreviation MRAP in the name denotes precisely this class of vehicle, that is armored vehicles resistant to mines and ambushes.
It is a kit of the vehicle in 1:35 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The number of parts, the breakdown of the assemblies and the recommended shades are to be found in the manufacturer's instructions, which also govern the order of the build.
Before you start gluing, lay the parts out against the instructions and try dry how they fit together. With large assemblies such as the cab and the cargo body it always pays off. Cut the surplus material and the marks left by manufacturing off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest with fine sandpaper. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. Vehicles of this class get dusty quickly in service, so the model will carry a pronounced wash into the joints, dust on the fenders and in the wheel arches and lightened edges on the surfaces the crew moves over.
The model will be appreciated by collectors of present-day military vehicles and by builders of dioramas, for whom a large wheeled vehicle holds a scene well. Given the extent of the build it is suited rather to modelers who already have the basic procedures tried out.
