Kraken for vehicles in 1:35 scale – an accessory, Spalah

This is not a vehicle kit but its equipment: the set depicts the Kraken electronic warfare station in the version for mounting on a car, in 1:35 scale. The Ukrainian brand Spalah prints these accessories by 3D technology from photopolymer resin and supplies them on print supports, unpainted. The brand also has a stationary version of the same device in its range, so check which version you need when you buy.

The real subject

The Kraken is a jamming station from the Ukrainian maker Kvertus, intended against unmanned aircraft. It works on the bands that drones use for control, and either jams them directionally or creates a dome-shaped field around the vehicle. The maker offers it among other things for mounting on armored cars, and according to reports of its use it is carried that way by the equipment of Ukrainian units. It is the array of antennas on the roof that is today among the most striking identifying marks of contemporary vehicles.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts in warm soapy water, cut them off the supports and sand the marks smooth with fine paper; protect your airways while sanding. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The antennas are thin, so glue them on last, once the vehicle has been painted. After the primer give the housing the shade of the vehicle, the antennas a darker plastic and set the cabling apart with a line of color. Put the dust and the mud only on the lower parts; the upper surfaces stay fairly clean on a vehicle.
