Flat tires for the early Sd.Kfz 222 in 1:35 scale with the type 1 profile. According to the name these are four wheels for the axles and one spare, and the parts follow the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Deflated rubber tells a story all by itself. An armored car with collapsed tires is laid up, damaged or abandoned, and the diorama around it gains a plot at once that would be hard to find with perfectly inflated wheels. The set brings exactly this state for the early rendering of the light reconnaissance car Sd.Kfz 222.
That these really are flat tires and not just a mild settling is confirmed by the make-up of the whole range: the maker lists two separate renderings side by side, one described as weighted and the other as flat. In shape they differ substantially. Whereas a weighted wheel has only a flat footprint at the ground, here the rubber has dropped all the way round, slumped over the rim and the walls have rippled.
The figure in the name speaks of four wheels and one spare. Early 222 cars served in Poland and in France, later also in the Balkans and in North Africa; early renderings can be told among other things by a simpler front end and different chassis equipment. This variant of the set is listed for the Tamiya kit, so the seating on its axles is worked out in advance.
During the build it helps to leave the car at a slight lean or one wheel turned, as though it had pulled over to the verge with a puncture.
One last small thing worth having: collapsed rubber changes the ride height of the car. The chassis drops closer to the base and a narrower gap stays between the fender and the tire. Anyone who adapts the ground under the model to that gets a scene which holds together at first glance.
